FAQs
Frequently Asked Questions
What should I wear to my first lesson?
We recommend wearing comfortable, unrestricting clothing and shoes with a smooth sole for turning. Avoid shoes with a heavy grip, excessively high heels, or shoes without an enclosed back as they can make it difficult to dance.
What shoes do I need for me first lesson?
Probably not for your first few lessons, but I highly recommend investing in a pair of ballroom dance shoes for comfort, support, and improved dancing ability. Regular shoes can damage the dance floor and impede your dancing.
Do I need to bring a partner?
Having a partner is not a requirement for taking ballroom dance lessons. My lessons are designed to accommodate individuals and couples, so everyone can enjoy learning and improving their dancing skills. Sometimes it is better to take individual classes. They can become personalized and allow for faster learning.
How long does it take to learn to dance?
It varies depending on an individual's aptitude and dedication to practice. Generally, most students start to feel confident on the dance floor within 3-6 months of regular lessons and practice.
What is your cancellation policy?
A 24-hour advance notice is required for cancellations to ensure smooth and efficient scheduling. Without this notice, the scheduled lesson will be forfeited unless a $50 late cancellation/rescheduling fee is paid.
What dance styles are available?
We teach most partner dance styles. Some of our most popular are Salsa, Bachata, Merengue, East Coast Swing, Tango, Waltz, Foxtrot, Cha Cha, Rumba, Mambo, Samba, West Coast Swing, and Country Western Two Step. We teach many more, but those are the ones most people inquire about. If you wonder if we teach it, just ask!
What will I be learning on the First Lesson?
One your first lesson we focus on exposing you to different dance styles so you have a breath of what styles are out there and you have a better sense of what you like and what you would like to focus on specifically.
How does your Introductory Special work?
Depending on your goals, on the second lesson we outline what our goals are for our dancing. If you are getting married, that would involve picking a First Dance Song and learning some of the composite steps that will go into your routine. If you are taking lessons for fun, we typically try out some more dances and at the end of the lesson we pick the dances we want to specifically focus on. Then on the third lesson, we talk about what are plan is moving forward.
